College Football QB Rankings – End of September 2009

by Frank Gantz on September 29, 2009

#1 Tim Tebow - Florida

In consultation with my son, Carlton, I have developed a quarterback rating system for ranking the top quarterbacks in college football.  This system incorporates and weighs various factors.  These factors are the weekly voting on the top quarterback by the Davey O’Brien Award folks, voting on Heisman candidates by the ESPN writers, wins and losses, team ranking, and quarterback rating statistics.  The last factor takes into account yards, touchdowns, interceptions and completion percentages.

So with that in mind here are the top 11 Gantz-rated quarterbacks in college football through the end of September.  Points in the rating system are in parentheses after the players name and school.   The list includes 11 because 2 players tied for 10th.  The leader is probably not a surprise:

1.  Tim Tebow, Florida (51)

2.  Case Keenum, Houston (39)

3.  Colt McCoy, Texas (37)

4.  Tony Pike, Cincinnati (33)

5.  Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame (29)

6.  Max Hall, BYU (27)

6.  Greg McElroy, Alabama (27)

8.  Todd Reesing, Kansas (26)

8.  Matt Barkley, Southern Cal (26)

10.  Blaine Gabbert, Missouri (23)

10.  Jacory Harris, Miami (23)
