#1 Tim Tebow - Florida
After week 5 of the college football season, here are my rankings of the top quarterbacks.
1. Tim Tebow, Florida Gators
Tebow has maintained this spot since after the first week. He had a bye week and used it to recover from a concussion he sustained versus Kentucky. Next up is a key game against LSU in Baton Rouge.
2. Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Clausen jumped from 5th place last week. He has the highest QB rating in the country and has led his team to victory in the final seconds of the game for the second straight week. He will have a bye this week, and then will get tested against USC.
3. Colt McCoy, Texas Longhorns
McCoy had a bye week and is now tied for 3rd. He occupied the third position last week and in my preseason list. His schedule will soon get tougher.
3. Tony Pike, Cincinnati Bearcats
Pike moved from 4th to a tie for 3rd with McCoy. He has the Bearcats off to a 5-0 start. Cincinnati is ranked higher than Ohio State for the first time in over 50 years.
5. Jacory Harris, Miami Hurricanes
Harris leaped from a tie for 10th last week to 5th by playing well in a big game against Oklahoma. He seems to be an extension of Coach Randy Shannon on the field. Miami has probably played its toughest opponents in the first 4 games. Harris could stay entrenched near the top.
6. Case Keenum, Houston Cougars
Keenum fell from 2nd last week to 6th with his team’s loss to UTEP in a wild west shootout. Keenum did put up impressive numbers, but needed the win to keep him higher on the list.
7. Max Hall, BYU Cougars
Hall led BYU to a win over Utah State this week. He had climbed early after leading BYU to an early win over Oklahoma, but his outing against Florida State hurt him.
8. Tyrod Taylor, Virginia Tech Hokies
Taylor enters the rankings for the first time this week after a nice game against Duke. He has the Hokies 4-1. The only blemish was an opening day loss to #3 ranked Alabama.
9. Greg McElroy, Alabama Crimson Tide
McElroy drops from 6th last week to 9th this week. He will go heads up with Jevan Snead of Ole Miss this Saturday on CBS. We’ll see which of the two looks better.
10. Todd Reesing, Kansas Jayhawks
Reesing has been flying under the radar due to Kansas’ early schedule. Reesing will be better tested as the season goes on.
** Dropping from the rankings are Matt Barkley, USC and Blaine Gabbert, Missouri.
