Corky’s BBQ – Gatlinburg

by Frank Gantz on April 9, 2010

This week Suzie and I took a couple of days off and headed to Gatlinburg, TN.  We arrived late at night and walked down the main drag.  I spotted Corky’s BBQ and immediately began to salivate.  Memphis is famous for BBQ and Corky’s helped make it that way.

So we made plans to eat BBQ the next day.  A few minutes before noon, we arrived.  We ordered an the smoked honey BBQ wings for an appetizer.  Now I love wings, and cannot remember having eaten any better than these.  The sauce was great, but the smoked flavor of the meat separated these wings from those in other establishments.

Suzie had a nice pulled pork sandwich.  I had the lunch portion of the dry ribs.  By dry, I mean that it has no sauce but has been rubbed with spices.  This is true Memphis style and what made Corky’s famous.  The fell off of bones and were so tasty, I’m afraid I might have been making noises while eating them.  The beans and the sweet potato fries as sides added a nice touch.

The service was wonderful, and I savored a delicious meal.  I can’t wait until we can go back again.
