The Missionary Ridge Local is a 6 mile train ride in Chattanooga. Today Suzie and I hopped aboard for a trip back into the golden era of American trains. This was Suzie’s first ride on a train. The train is operated by the Tennessee Valley Railroad.
Before we boarded, we were able to snap some pictures of Thomas the Train (the grandsons will love this). Thomas is in town for special events this weekend.
From the inside lobby to the outside areas, one can feel the nostalgia. The conductor gave his “All Aboard!” call and we were off. Our journey took us to the East Chattanooga station. Along the route we crossed over the Chickamauga Creek through the trees and into a horseshoe tunnel. Halfway along the trip, the engine separated from the cars and was turned around on a turntable.
Check out the short video clip of us riding into the tunnel. If you click here, you can go to my YouTube page and see a video of the turntable.
