Art Exhibit: Antoine-Louis Barye

While we were visiting the Flagler Museum, we toured an Art Exhibit on the 2nd floor. It was a showing of the art of Antoine-Louis Barye. Barye is known most for his scultures. He was a teacher of Rodin. Barye is considered animalier or animal sculptor of the 19th century. This exhibit was titled “Untamed.” It featured works of animals in fierce combat with each other or against man.

This was my favorite piece, “Theseus and the Minotaur.” In mythology, human sacrifices were made to the Minotaur until Theseus decided to kill the Minotaur.
