War Room (2015)

The Kendricks Brothers have brought us another film in the tradition of four earlier films, including Fireproof and Courageous. Like those previous films, War Room presents a feel good story that is Christian at heart. Also like those previous films and countless other Christian films, it falls into the trap of being more like a Lifetime movie than real art.

A danger exists with this approach to film making. It tends to leave viewers with the idea that being committed in Christian faith will make life easy and void of any mess. After all when the people in this movie began praying, not only did God grant forgiveness and restore broken relations but He also provided trophies for the kid’s competitions.

With that being said, I am glad that I paid to see the movie. I would watch it again. In particular watching the character of Miss Clara stirs a deep passion within me to be a man of prayer. Her character is an elderly woman who takes seriously the idea of entering into your prayer closet to do spiritual battle. She also communicates a healthy view of discipleship which allowed her to mentor a younger woman regarding prayer.

The older I get the more convinced I am of how great a privilege it is to pray. If you focus your attention on these matters while you watch the movie, you will gladly have paid the price of admission.

In this clip you will chuckle but be exhorted to have a “hot” prayer life.
