Recently I posted a short article At the Feet of Jesus. It was an encouragement to make that place a place of focus for us. Once we fall at his feet, what do we do? Be sure that you understand that the primary issue is not about doing at the feet of Jesus. It is about being at his feet.
But I do find it helpful when I read the biblical accounts of people who were found at his feet. These folks found that at the feet of Jesus they were in a prime location for worship. This worship displays itself in several actions in the lives of these people. Let’s see what they are.
When Jesus was at a Pharisee’s house for dinner, a sinful woman entered and placed herself at the feet of Jesus. Let’s observe what she did while there.
And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.
–Luke 7:37-38, ESV
1. At the feet of Jesus we weep.
So aware of her sin and confronted with his character, the tears flowed. They flowed so plentifully that she washed his feet with those tears. Surely there will be times when we meet the Master that we will shed tears over the sin in our lives.
2. At the feet of Jesus we kiss his feet.
So beautiful were these feet that brought the gospel of peace, that she could not refrain from demonstrating her affections on them. Would that we would show such humility at beholding his beauty.
3. At the feet of Jesus we anoint him with that which is precious.
As the wise men did at Jesus’ birth, this woman gave what was of value for the sole purpose of honoring Christ. Do you spend what is of value for the glory and comfort of our Lord?
