
- A U.S. soldier in Afghanistan had some Bibles in Afghan languages sent to him. After a media alert, the military confiscated the Bibles and had them destroyed. It is illegal in Afghanistan to convert from Islam. In fact, in 2006 a man who had converted to Christianity was sentenced to death for apostasy. He was later allowed to leave the country after an international outcry. General Order #1 for the U.S. Central Command forbids troops from trying to convert people to another religion.
