Oklahoma Dims the Light of Kevin Durant?

June 13, 2012

After Kevin Durant shined on national television during Game 1 of the NBA Finals, one opponent decided to take a shot at Oklahoma.

***Disclosure: I am a native of Oklahoma living in South Florida.***

Dwayne Wade took the opportunity between games 1 and 2 to take a jab at the state of Oklahoma.  This is the same Dwayne Wade who shot 37% from the field in the game 1 loss to Oklahoma City.  By the way, Kevin Durant shot 60% and scored 36 points.

Here’s what Wade said,

Being in Oklahoma kind of dims his light a little bit, not him on the basketball court but him off the court. There’s not a lot of exciting things going on out here.

Granted, Miami is a unique city with all kinds of things going on it.  But Oklahoma is also a unique place that does not get the credit it deserves.

The only time that I know of Kevin Durant being slighted is by the game Doodle Jump :) .

Anyway, doesn’t Wade have anything else to worry about before Game 2?  I’m pretty sure the loudest fans in the NBA will fill Chesapeake Energy Arena with some noise in Wade’s direction during Game 2.

Wade, not everybody attracts attention with preseason press conferences declaring their own greatness.  They might just let the light shine on tremendous postseason play.

KD brings honor to OKC, Oklahoma, his family, and himself. He is very proud of his time at THE University of Texas, but has given so much to the Thunder fans and the OK City community. He seems to believe actions speak louder than words. It is still to be seen which TEAM wins the championship. In the eyes of most basketball fans, the Thunder’s team is a winner no matter what. To have Kevin playing for the Thunder with all the talent he has (as well as his teammates) speaks well for the draw of the Oklahoma life style. Perhaps we don’t have as many bright lights, and all that goes with the big city markets. However, that is not a reason the think of OKLAHOMA as a second class place to work or live.
