Doubt (2008)

Suzie and I went to see this movie last night. I absolutely loved it. If your movies have to have special effects and unrealistic chase scenes, then this won’t be for you.

If you want to see a movie with a great story, great acting and questions that will make you think, then this is one you shouldn’t miss.

Meryl Streep plays an old-school nun at a church and parochial school. She is a master of the acting craft. Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a searching, questionable priest. His acting is superb. When Streep and Hoffman are engaged in dialogue, you will not see better conversation on the big screen.

As the title indicates, one is left to ponder the reality and role of doubt in the life of a Christian. From the opening sermon by Hoffman to the closing lines from Streep doubt is a central theme.

The movie also makes you think about the issues of clergy pedophilia and race relations. Go see this movie.
